The "Renovate - Rent" programme will be implemented from today, Friday 5 April which aims to "open" 12,500 closed properties, boosting the property market with homes for rent. According to the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Sofia Zacharaki, the platform for applications opens today Friday 5/4.
- The size of the property must be up to 100 square meters and the owners must have at least 50% ownership.
- The subsidised amount is up to €10,000. If the expenditure is made by electronic means, the subsidy will be up to EUR 4,000.
- The scheme can provide a deposit of up to €2000 and the rest of the money upon completion of the work.
Beneficiaries will be able to submit their applications online, in the programme which provides for a 40% subsidy of the renovation up to the amount of €10,000, with a total budget of €50 million. The conditions are:
- Family income must be up to 40,000 euros
- The asset limit to be up to €300,000
After the necessary cross-checks have been carried out by the CFCA, those concerned will automatically receive an automatic notification of the approval or rejection decision. The next step is the immediate disbursement of the foreseen advance payment, which amounts to 50% of the estimated subsidy amount.
Criteria and conditions
Houses should not be larger than 100 square meters and should be located in a residential area.
It is noted that "closed" dwellings are defined as those declared as "vacant dwellings" in the E2 in the last 3 years.
The work and materials must have been purchased with invoices, which must then be submitted electronically.
Once the landlord has done the renovation, it is necessary to rent the property for three years and the way to prove this is when submitting the invoices to receive the subsidy, to also submit the electronic tenancy agreement, which proves that they have already found the person or persons who will rent the house. The possibility of paying part of the subsidy in advance applies to owners or usufructuaries with a percentage of usufruct ownership equal to 50%.

Based on the EIA, the completion of the renovation of the property must be completed in up to 6 months in order to be given for rent. If the property is not rented, then there will be a fine equal to the reimbursement of the renovation fee. It should be noted that property owners who have been enrolled in the Economy programme are "outside" the programme.
