Within the current week, the possibility for taxpayers to pay certified, unarranged debts of natural and legal persons using payment cards is expected to open on the electronic platform of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue.

Circular POL.1071/2018 of the AADE states the following:

The payment of individual debts certified at the tax offices (natural and non-natural persons) may be carried out using payment cards, through the Taxisnet electronic service on the AADE online portal. The user selects the debt or debts they wish to pay and specifies the exact amount to be paid for them.

The transaction is completed in the online environment of DIAS S.A. The AADE does not retain access to card details, such as the number, expiry date and security code.

This decision shall apply from its publication in the Government Gazette.

Where the AADE is aiming

Among other things, the aim of the tax authority, in addition to facilitating citizens, is also to check the commission charges imposed at bank counters on taxpayers for the settlement of tax liabilities.

We should also note that, in a recent statement regarding payment by card at banks, in response to a relevant question from MPs, the AADE said that one of its goals is to turn taxpayers towards the use of electronic banking and the internet, as a means among other things of combating tax evasion.

Method of payment

Payment will be made through the service ‘Personalised Information’ of TAXISnet, on the AADE online portal, www.aade.gr. With the new service provided, it is possible to pay multiple debts in one transaction, and upon its successful completion, the debts are credited immediately.
