A new debt settlement option is now available, allowing eligible debtors to repay certain outstanding amounts owed to AADE (Independent Authority for Public Revenue) and EFKA (e-National Social Security Fund) in up to 72 instalments.
The application platform is already open. This is a temporary settlement scheme covering eligible debts that were assessed by 31 December 2023.
The scheme will not remain available indefinitely, as applications are expected to close at the end of 2026. Individuals, professionals and businesses with outstanding debts to the Greek State should therefore consider checking their eligibility in good time.
Which debts are eligible for the 72-instalment settlement?
The temporary scheme applies specifically to debts owed to the Greek State, namely outstanding amounts due to:
- AADE (Independent Authority for Public Revenue)
- EFKA (e-National Social Security Fund)
A key eligibility requirement is that the relevant debts must have been assessed by 31 December 2023.
The 72-instalment scheme does not cover bank loans or other debts owed to financial institutions, as it is limited to eligible liabilities towards AADE and EFKA.
What does the 72-instalment settlement offer?
The option to repay eligible debts in up to 72 instalments can make existing liabilities more manageable and help debtors better plan their financial obligations over time.
For businesses and self-employed professionals in particular, spreading outstanding AADE or EFKA liabilities over a longer repayment period may help ease the pressure on cash flow and provide greater predictability in financial planning.
However, each case should be assessed individually. Before submitting an application, it is important to confirm that the relevant debts meet the requirements of the scheme and that the debtor is eligible to apply.
What is the deadline for the 72-instalment scheme?
The application platform is already open, with applications for the temporary settlement scheme expected to remain available until the end of 2026.
As this is a temporary rather than a permanent debt settlement scheme, eligible debtors should not assume that the same option will continue to be available once the application period has ended.
Reviewing eligibility early provides sufficient time to assess the outstanding liabilities, determine whether they qualify for the scheme and complete the necessary steps before the deadline.
