The Ministry of Development has announced the launch of the National Elevator Registration Platform, aiming to create a complete and certified record of all elevators across the country – both in public and private buildings.
This registration is mandatory and applies to all residential buildings, commercial properties, and public facilities.
Why This Matters
Elevator safety is directly linked to the daily lives and quality of life of citizens. In a seismically active country like Greece, proper maintenance and operational certification of elevators is a public safety priority.
The new registry aims to:
-
Create a centralized national database of all elevators
-
Enable the planning of modernization and upgrade programs
-
Ensure full alignment with European safety standards
Who Is Required to Register
The registration can be submitted by:
-
Property owners or building managers
-
Facility operators in public or commercial buildings
-
Certified elevator maintenance technicians or installers
Access to the platform will be via Taxisnet credentials, and the process has been designed to be simple and fast, encouraging wide participation.
What Information Will Be Required
The registration will include 7 essential fields, all of which are typically known to those responsible:
-
Installation location (address and KAEK property ID – auto-filled where available)
-
Number of elevators in the building
-
Year of installation
-
Number of stops the elevator serves
-
CE certification status
-
Certification history (if applicable, and date of issuance)
-
Details of the owner/manager or maintenance technician (automatically linked through authentication)
It is important to note that previous administrative penalties for non-registration (under Ministerial Decision 28425/2008) have been suspended, to encourage full compliance without additional burdens.
What Happens Next
After the registration window closes on November 30, 2025, the collected data will be used to:
-
Set priorities for necessary upgrades
-
Design a certification schedule
-
Evaluate the technical condition of elevators at a national level
The legislative framework for this initiative is included in the upcoming National Quality Policy Bill, which is expected to be submitted to Parliament in the coming days.
What This Means for Businesses and Property Managers
For property owners, building managers, public institutions, and professionals in the elevator installation/maintenance sector, compliance with the new registry is not only mandatory but also essential for:
-
Ensuring safe and compliant operation
-
Avoiding future delays or penalties
-
Meeting updated national and European safety standards
This registration is not just a bureaucratic task. It represents the first step toward a nationwide upgrade of elevator systems, both technically and operationally.
