AADE Implements Major Change in VAT Refund Process — Mandatory IBAN Registration in the Registry Starting July 1st, 2025
What changes:
-
The IBAN (Greek or SEPA) will no longer be declared within the VAT return form. Instead, businesses must register their IBAN exclusively through the AADE Registry.
-
The IBAN declaration is submitted once and applies to all future VAT refund applications.
How to register your IBAN:
-
Via the myAADE platform: Registry & Communication → IBAN Registration
-
Via the myAADE mobile app: Contact Information → IBAN
Special cases:
-
For bank accounts outside of Greece or outside the SEPA area, an additional request must be submitted through the "My Requests" section in myAADE.
-
For Greek or SEPA bank accounts, no separate request is required after IBAN registration.
Connection with new legislation:
This change is part of the new VAT Code (Law 5144/2024) and aims to simplify, accelerate, and ensure accuracy in VAT refund management.
What it means for businesses:
-
Faster VAT refund disbursements
-
Reduced errors and delays
-
Improved cash flow with less bureaucracy
Next steps:
-
Verify and register your IBAN through myAADE or the mobile app.
-
Inform your accountant or finance department.
-
If you use a non-SEPA bank account, submit the additional request promptly.
