According to Ministerial Decision 32205/Δ10.96/2013 (Government Gazette Β’ 2562/11.10.2013), all businesses in Greece are required to maintain a workplace first aid kit containing the minimum mandatory medical and first aid supplies.
This obligation forms part of the broader framework for employee health and safety and applies to all employers, regardless of industry or company size.
What must a workplace first aid kit include?
Under the current legislation, workplace first aid kits must include, at minimum:
- disposable gloves,
- antiseptic solutions,
- sterile gauze pads,
- bandages,
- adhesive tape,
- saline solution,
- cotton wool,
- burn and minor injury treatment materials,
- antihistamines,
- paracetamol,
- eye wash solutions,
- as well as other essential first aid supplies.
The legislation also provides for additional medical and pharmaceutical items, including antacids, antispasmodics, anti-diarrheal medication, burn ointments and haemostatic bandages.
Employer obligations:
Employers are responsible for ensuring that the workplace first aid kit:
- is easily accessible,
- is properly marked,
- is regularly inspected,
- is replenished when supplies expire or run out,
- and remains fully stocked in accordance with legal requirements.
Maintaining a properly equipped first aid kit is considered a core workplace health and safety obligation and may be reviewed during inspections by the relevant authorities.
What does the legislation provide?
The obligation is established under Ministerial Decision 32205/Δ10.96/2013, published in Government Gazette Β’ 2562/11.10.2013, which defines the minimum required first aid materials for workplaces in Greece.
Compliance with these requirements contributes not only to employee protection, but also to the overall operational compliance and preparedness of a business.
Supporting workplace compliance:
Health and safety compliance is not merely a formal legal requirement. It is an essential part of maintaining a safe, organised and responsible working environment.
Staying informed about labour law obligations and workplace safety requirements helps businesses reduce operational risk and ensure compliance with current regulations.
